Today’s anthem at the Offertory, a movement from John Rutter’s Requiem, reflects on man’s mortality – the fragility of life, while praying the first line of the liturgical text “Lamb of God, that takest away the sins of the world, grant them eternal rest.” After a relentless build up ungirded by the heartbeat of timpani, the anthem concludes peacefully with Jesus’ assurance, “I am the resurrection and life, saith the Lord: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.”

During the Ministration, we hear the words from Psalm 25 calling upon God’s mercy and loving-kindness, in the anthem “Call to Remembrance” by Tudor composer Richard Farrant.
